GRADING POLICIES and PROCEDURES
The individual teachers of Harvest Christian Academy are responsible for establishing grading criteria and standards for each course. A student should receive a copy of course requirements as well as the standard for evaluation at the onset of each new course. For grades 9-12, a Course Description and Standard is to be submitted prior to the beginning of each course being administered for High School credit.
It is the responsibility of the individual instructor to document student performance in order to justify all grades given. The justification must be in accordance with the Course of Study, Course Descriptions and Course Standards kept on the online records site at Homeschool Reporting
For Grades 1-3 it is acceptable to use "E" for Excellent, "S" for Satisfactory, and "N" for Needs Improvement for assigning grades.
For Grades 4-12 letter grades are required. The following scale is recommended by HCA unless otherwise specified by the instructor:
Performance below 70% does not receive a passing grade for credit. Instructors who choose to alter this grading scale must include a specific grading scale with justification in the Course Description and Standards (9-12 grade only) which must be on file prior to the beginning of the class.
It is important that the grading criteria (Course Standards) be clear to the student at the onset of the course. The following is a sample of how a grading criteria might be structured for a biology course:
25% Daily assignments
25% Lab Reports
25% Final Exam
It should also be clear when assignments are due and what the consequences will be for late work.
