Grading
The individual teachers of Harvest Christian Academy are responsible for establishing grading criteria and standards for each course. The High School Course Description and Standards form is to be submitted prior to the beginning of each course being administered for high school credit. Each student receives a copy of course requirements as well as the standard for evaluation at the onset of each new course. It is the responsibility of the individual instructor to document student performance in order to justify all grades given. The justification must be in accordance with the High School Course Description and Standard on file in the school office. Honors courses are factored into the student’s GPA on a 5.0 scale while regular classes are computed on a 4.0 scale. To qualify as an honors course the curriculum must meet one or more of the following criteria:
- college level curriculum is used ( not all community college classes use college level curriculum)
- packaged curriculum is used which states that academics are honors level.
- Additional instruction and assignments are given for the same course credits
- (e.g. , a 5 credit course which expects 7 credit hours of effort)
- the honors course is substantiated by the rest of the transcript ( e.g., honors math students take classes in higher math beyond Algebra ;honors English
- students take an extensive amount of English)
- HCA staff assists in evaluating a course as honors level.
