The School
Harvest Christian Academy is private, independent study program. Current enrollment is 198 students in grades 1-12. The central office is located in Calistoga California. Students are instructed in a variety of setting , i.e. independent, private tutor, group classes, satellite and public/private high school or college classes. Student progress is monitored by the school administrator and counselors. Student records are maintained at the Calistoga office. The school opened in the fall of 1994 and has graduated 80 students from high school. HCA maintains membership with the College Board, Home School Legal Defense, Christian Home Educators Association of California and is registered with the California Dept. of Education.
Curriculum
Curriculum is chosen based on individual needs, learning style, and interest. All curriculum must be
pre-approved by the administrator. All high school courses must be supported by a course description which includes the textbooks used, grading criteria, and course requirements and content. All courses must have a course description on file in order to be awarded credit.
Credit Requirement/Graduation
Students who desire a diploma of graduation must complete the following course of study:
Bible 20 credits
English 30 credits
Math 20 credits
History 20 credits
Economics 5 credits
Government 5 credits
Science 20 credits
Fine arts 10 credits
Foreign language 10 credits
Health 5 credits
Community Service 5 credits
Physical Education 20 credits
Electives 6 credits
In addition to credit requirements, students must also pass an essay competency exam and submit a portfolio. Students who intend to apply to a 4-year college are advised to fulfill elective credit with core academic subjects.
Honors Courses
Honors credit is awarded based on the following criteria:
Course is designated by the publisher to be honors level.
Course is an official AP course
Course is a college course which qualifies for transfer credit.
Grading
A= 90%-100% B=80%-89% C= 70%-79% D= 60%-69% Below 60% requires a repeat of the course
Class Rank
Class rank is based on a combination of cumulative GPA, number of A-G courses, highest level of math completed, and SAT scores.
